Meet Gala

Galina Semenova is more than a photographer—she’s a guide, holding space for women to see themselves with new eyes. Through her fine art portraiture, she invites deep self-reclamation, using photography as a tool for healing, empowerment, and rediscovery.

Her work, especially with breast cancer survivors, reveals how powerful an image can be—not just to capture a moment, but to transform the way we see ourselves. With tenderness and artistic depth, Galina helps women step beyond the stories they’ve been told and into the truth of their own radiance.

“I believe every woman is divine. My lens is simply a mirror for that light.”

Testimonials

“I had the best experience taking Galina ’s photography class. At first, I was thinking a self- portrait was going to be like a selfie. But then, Galina showed us her award winning self- portraits and I was blown away and inspired. I did not know self-portraits could be cool, interesting so much so I could not wait to come up with my own. She taught us lighting, composition, and a new fun app. I will admit it was hard to take photos of myself but I finally got a few I liked. I think I took over 100 to get a handful of photos. I felt empowered and creative. Galina’s class and lessons are invaluable, and I will use it for the rest of my life.”
Alma Diffie
“This was such a beautiful photography class to experience. Letting go of inhibitions and self-consciousness definitely allowed me to break down my walls and see myself in a new way. Without fear of what other people would think or my inner critic taking over. It felt so freeing.”
Rhonda Bulwer
“I transformed my healing from peeling an onion to a ranunculus in your modality session!! It was amazing!”

“Thank you so much for an amazing workshop at the retreat! The self-portrait session was really eye-opening. I learned so much about how to capture emotions and tell my story through photos and words. I really appreciated the way you created such a comfortable space for all of us to share and express ourselves. Your energy and passion made the experience even more special. I feel more confident in telling my story now, and I’m excited to put everything I learned into practice. Thanks again for making it such a memorable experience!”

My experience in the workshop was truly special. Galina opened a new perspective on self-portraits and reignited my confidence after diagnosis had left me feeling lost and unrecognizable. I had become disconnected from myself and others, but through her guidance, I felt that connection again. She created a safe, inclusive space where age and experience didn’t matter—only self-expression. Her aura is beautiful, and she sees beyond appearances, reminding us we are more than a perfect pose. This workshop has inspired me to embrace my journey in a way I never thought possible. I only wish I had met her sooner.”

"The poetic profundity universally intimate; personal yet universal experience brought up long repressed trauma/experience, stirred recall from decades past and long ago buried. The treasures she shares are rare and golden. Such an amazing being of unbounded generosity and spirit. Unafraid, fearless for all in attendance, really - that's a tough space to hold, yet she embraces it, wears it like a mantle, a shroud and this holds, envelopes everyone in her orbit. For now we are safe - her safety has become ours. I am so looking forward to her next workshop, gathering, and meeting."

“I deeply appreciate how you guided us through the selfie exploration exercises with compassion, openness, and no pressure. Your story of self-love and how photography helped you see yourself differently was raw, vulnerable, and profoundly comforting. It taught me how trauma shapes self-image. I used to love photos of myself—playful, silly, and confident in my body and life. But cancer changed that. Facing it in my mid-40s, a time when cultural biases challenge women’s beauty, I struggled to recognize the woman in the mirror. She didn’t look like the person I once loved seeing. During treatment, I tried to embrace my new self but often felt disappointed. This exercise reminded me to live in the moment and take photos just for me. On this retreat with survivors, surrounded by healing energy, I let go of expectations and embraced myself fully. My favorite photo captured me flipping my regrowing hair forward—something I usually hide—and planes flying overhead added vibrant colors to the sky. It was a beautiful memory of simply being me, with myself. Thank you for being a healing instrument, a permission giver, and an encourager to see the beauty in ourselves. We see it in you, and those around us, but taking time for the hardest part, ourselves, was such a gift and blessing to experience under your guidance. Thank you! Thank you!”

FAQ – What to Expect

What if I’ve never done this before?

No experience is needed—just an open heart. This workshop isn’t about being “photogenic” or knowing how to pose. It’s about feeling, exploring, and allowing yourself to be seen, just as you are. I’ll gently guide you through the process, and you’ll be supported every step of the way.

Absolutely. This is a sacred, judgment-free space where your comfort and emotional well-being come first. Every moment is led with care, and you’re always in control of how much you choose to share or reveal.

That’s okay. Emotions are welcome here. Sometimes healing comes with tears, sometimes with laughter—both are part of the process. If at any point you need a pause, you’ll have the space to breathe, reflect, and move at your own pace.

These images are yours to cherish in whatever way feels right. Some women keep them as private reminders of their strength and journey. Others share them with loved ones, print them as art for their space, or use them to mark a new chapter in their life. There’s no right or wrong way—only what feels meaningful to you.

Just yourself and anything that makes you feel connected to your essence—a favorite piece of clothing, jewelry, a meaningful object. The most important thing you bring is your willingness to see yourself in a new light.

Absolutely. This isn’t about performing for the camera—it’s about reconnecting with yourself. There’s no pressure to “look good” or pose a certain way. I’ll gently guide you in a way that feels natural and safe, allowing you to move at your own pace.

This workshop isn’t about creating a perfect image—it’s about seeing yourself with compassion. Sometimes, our initial reaction is shaped by old stories and expectations. But through this process, many women begin to see themselves with new eyes, with more love and appreciation for their journey.

No, your images are yours alone. You can choose to keep them private, share them with a trusted friend, or celebrate them in a way that feels right for you. There’s no pressure to show them to anyone unless you want to.

Wear something that makes you feel like you—comfortable, beautiful, empowered. Flowy fabrics, soft textures, or even something symbolic from your journey can add meaning to your portraits. Most importantly, choose something that makes you feel at home in your body.
