Dreams Beyond Tomorrow: Learning the Wisdom of the Present Moment

In today’s world, we are all “running.” We run toward deadlines and social obligations. However, we often forget the value of today. What happens when the “warranty” of tomorrow disappears? In fact, the Dreams Beyond Tomorrow project explores this question through the lens of eight extraordinary San Diego women.

Illness as a Teacher: The Dreams Beyond Tomorrow Message

These women live with metastatic (Stage IV) breast cancer. Specifically, they have become my teachers. They show us how to trade the “run” of daily life for a radical focus on the present. Furthermore, in a divided environment, they remind us that we only truly have each other. Our families, our friends, and our kindness are what matter most.

As a founder of the Womanity Portrait Foundation I believe we can all learn from them. Therefore, we should not need a terminal illness to change our lives.

Visual Medicine and the Power of Art

This event fosters empathy and connection through “visual medicine.” Because we want to show beauty instead of just heaviness, the exhibition includes several elements.

  • The Dreamscape Portraits:Essentially these large-scale portraits visualize the inner aspirations of our participants.
  • The Documentary Film: This cinematic exploration features the work of Emmy-nominated filmmaker Erin Pedersen. Additionally, it captures the raw wisdom of these women.
  • The Artist Talk: Lastly, we will host a live discussion on human resilience and the power of now.
